Leading international art historian to give a guided exhibition tour at the Rothko Centre

At 4 p.m. on Friday, 9 June, at the Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre, the prominent British art historian, critic and abstract expressionism researcher David Anfam will give a guided tour of the exhibition “Stefan Gierowski: From Here to Eternity”.

Art historian David Anfam has compared the art of Stefan Gierowski (1925–2022), the celebrated classic of Polish modernism, to Mark Rothko and John Hoyland. Gierowski had been active on the Polish art scene since the 1950s, creating abstract paintings exploring the dual nature of light.

David Anfam, who has earned broad international recognition with his research into Mark Rothko’s oeuvre, will touch upon the key facts and milestones in Gierowski’s personal and professional biography and discuss the historical significance of his creative output.

The guided tour will be available free of charge in English with a Latvian translation.
