The work on opening of the Mark Rothko Art Centre continues. Culture news
Marion Kahan, the manager of the collection of Kate Rothko Prizel and Christopher Rothko, visited Daugavpils for three days. The aim of her visit was to make sure that the premises of the Mark Rothko Art Centre where will be displayed six original works of Mark Rothko comply the requirements of the all international standards of art museums. The preparation of the visit took long time due to informational exchange and to coordinating a lot of questions. Now it is entirely clear what Mark Rothko’s original works will be exhibited in Daugavpils. The visit of Marion Kahan is only one of many events which should be held before the opening of the Centre on 24th of April, 2013.
The technical project “Mark Rothko Art Centre” was developed by the “ARHIS” Ltd. at the year 2008. The construction works started in May, 2011 and were finished in October, 2012. Construction works were done by the “Ditton būve” Ltd. During the construction works the historical square and building was maximally saved as well as the plan of the artillery arsenal building.
After the opening of the Centre the exhibition hall with Rothko’s original works will be available for the visitors. There will be displayed artist’s six original works which were deposited to the Centre by the world famous artist’s children. Also Rothko’s Silent Room, video hall, exposition of the reproductions of Rothko’s works and digital exposition will be available. The Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre’s exhibition and the exhibition of artist’s Peter Griffin works will be available in the Art Centre’s Contemporary Arts Sector. The exhibition "Arts Days of Latgale" will be available in the Project Sector of the Art Centre. The exhibition of Solomon Gershov paintings and ceramic exhibition of Pēteris Martinsons will be exhibited in the Local Expositional Sector.
