Application deadline extended for international juried exhibition of ceramics Culture news
Having rescheduled the 3rd Latvia Ceramics Biennale to the summer of 2021, its organisers extend the application deadline for the international juried exhibition of ceramics “Martinsons Award” until 1 November 2020.
The international juried exhibition of ceramics MARTINSONS AWARD is organised by Latvian Centre for Contemporary Ceramics in cooperation with Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre within the framework of the 3rd Latvia Ceramics Biennale.
The international juried exhibition MARTINSONS AWARD is open to individual artists and groups irrespective of age or nationality. The applicants must submit an ONLINE APPLICATION FORM.
Applications are due by 1 November 2020. They will be evaluated in two stages: stage 1 (selection of participants for the juried exhibition) and stage 2 (choosing the winning artworks).
The jury will pick the winners of MARTINSONS AWARD in two categories from national and international pools of artists. Prize money to be distributed among the winners in national and international categories exceeds 15 000 euro (awards will be taxed as stipulated in the legislation of the Republic of Latvia).
Artworks by the selected artists will be exhibited at Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre July through October 2021. All exhibits will be featured in the exhibition catalogue. Each participant will receive a copy of the catalogue and a certificate of participation.
Besides juried exhibition MARTINSONS AWARD, all participants will be invited to join in all events of the 3rd Latvia Ceramics Biennale (exhibitions, conference, presentations, etc.).
Applicants will be evaluated by an international jury featuring Claudia Casali (ITALY), art historian, director of the International Ceramics Museum in Faenza; Ilona Romule (LATVIA), artist, board member of the International Academy of Ceramics; Steve Mattison (UK), artist, international coordinator at the International Ceramics Studio in Kecskemét, Hungary; Arina Ailincai (ROMANIA), artist, curator at Cluj International Ceramics Biennale; Kaspars Geiduks (LATVIA), artist, MARTINSONS AWARD 2018 bronze winner in the national category; Irina Razumovskaya (RUSSIA/UK), artist, teacher at the London Royal College of Art; Misun Rheem (SOUTH KOREA), committee member at Korean International Ceramic Biennale 2019, executive director of Craft Department at Korea Craft & Design Foundation; Valentīns Petjko (LATVIA), artist, curator, Latvian Centre for Contemporary Ceramics.
