THE RESULTS OF THE FESTIVAL "SILVER BELLS" Culture news
On 16 January, the XIV International Festival of Sacred Music "Silver Bells", which took place online for three days on Youtube channel "Latvian Contests", has ended.
Within the Festival, a competition for vocal ensembles, choirs and, for the first time, young choir conductors, professional choirs and virtual ensembles took place. In total 150 competitors from 18 countries took part in the festival.
An international jury from nine countries judged the performances. The jury members provided positive feedback about the organisation of the festival and the technical and artistic level of the participants' performances. Enric Genesca Baraldes, a jury member from Spain says: "I was pleasantly surprised by the high level of performance of the mixed choirs and the children's choirs. There are praiseworthy performers in all the competition categories.” Tim Sharp, the chairman of the jury from the USA, positively evaluated the choral competition, praising the performance of the young artists.
The winner of each category will receive a winner's diploma and a prize, while first, second and third degree nominees will receive diplomas. Special diplomas for the most attractive performance have been awarded to the Ventus Choir, conducted by Svetlana Erastova (Samara, Russia); for outstanding performances of national composers’ works – to Ludmila Samarin (Soroki, Moldova) and Elżbieta Siczek (Warsaw, Poland); for a bright performance of contemporary composers’ works – Hefei Citizen Chorus, conductor Wang Yifan (Hefei, Chine); for high pedagogical skills to Larisa Yarutskaya (St Petersburg, Russia) and Yulia Puchko-Kolesnik (Kiev, Ukraine).

The XIV International Festival of Sacred Music "Silver Bells" is organised by Daugavpils City Municipality Department of Culture in cooperation with Daugavpils Unity House.
