3rd Latvia Ceramics Biennale is rescheduled Culture news
With the extension of the nationwide state of emergency, the organisers of the 3rd Latvia Ceramic Biennale have decided to reschedule the entire programme and its central event – the international juried exhibition MARTINSONS AWARD – for the summer of 2021.
Latvia Ceramics Biennale was to be opened on 30 June of the present year with the exhibition of Baltic ceramics at the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design in Rīga. It would have concluded on 3 July with the opening of the international juried exhibition MARTINSON AWARD at Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre and an awards ceremony to announce the winners of the competition who would have been chosen by an international panel of judges.
In view of the current situation with the spread of Covid-19 in Latvia and globally and taking into account a number of restrictions that bind the organisers and participants of the Biennale, as well as considering potential risks and uncertainty regarding future developments, an executive decision was taken to reschedule the event.
An additional application round will be announced in the autumn of 2020. The results of the final selection of participants will be announced in early 2021.
The open call to participants launched earlier this year closed on 5 April. By now, more than 300 artists from all over the world have applied to participate in the Biennale’s juried exhibition MARTINSTONS AWARD.
The organisers of the event – Latvian Centre for Contemporary Ceramics and Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre – will send each participant an individual notification about the rescheduling of the event and pursuant changes in the by-law.
