Exhibition of Latvian contemporary ceramics soon to open in Balvi Culture news
At 4 p.m. on Wednesday 16 September Balvi District Museum will open the exhibition of Latvian contemporary ceramics “Dot” from the collection of Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre.
Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre is open to sharing and displaying one of its greatest values – the contemporary art collection. The “DOT” project was conceived in cooperation with Balvi District Museum to showcase the works of pioneering trailblazers in the field of Latvian contemporary ceramics beside creative outputs of young, aspiring artists.
A dot is at once a beginning and an end. It denotes depth of thought, a pause, a longing for extension or a testament of completion. As such, it suggests creative flight of thought that takes material shape in a finished artwork or keeps moving along the path of inspiration.
The artworks featured in this exhibition are complete forms comprised of myriad dots where the artists have touched the material, be it clay, stoneware or porcelain. At the same time, they are touchpoints for the ceramicists’ perceptions of their inner selves and the world around them.
Featured artists: Lilija Zeiļa, Silvija Šmidkena, Pēteris Martinsons, Līga Skariņa, Una Gura, Nellija Dzalba, Ilona Šauša, Ieva Bertašūte-Grosbaha, Kaspars Geiduks, Dainis Lesiņš.
The exhibition in Balvi District Museum (46 Brīvības Street) is available 16 September through 31 October.
