Travelling exhibition “You are. You can.” devoted to Paralympic Games in London has begun in Daugavpils. Sport news
On April 11 the travelling photo exhibition “You are. You can.” devoted to Paralympic Games inLondonhas been opened at the Daugavpils Olympic Centre. This exhibition was created with the support of Citadele bank. The opening ceremony began with a speech of Ms. Žanna Kulakova - the chairperson ofDaugavpilsCity council.
Ms. Žanna Kulakova said: Owing to the author of the exhibition Juris Bērziņš – Soms we can see the tenacity of the athletes, their hardships and great joy of achievements. The expressive photos of the exhibition show the great abilities of a person.
On behalf of theDaugavpilscity council I would like to thank the bank ‘Citadele’ for organising the exhibition and for great support to the Latvian Paralympic movement. I would like to express gratitude to Latvian Paralympic Committee for assistance provided to our athletes and motivating sportsmen to achieve results.
Andris Ulmanis -Secretary General of the Latvian Paralympic Committee expressed an opinion that Paralympic movement has become popular inLatviaand he hopes that it will develop inDaugavpilsas well. Mr. Ulmanis highly appreciates achievements ofDaugavpilssportsmen, particularly the recent achievement ofDaugavpilsrowers at World Championship in the group of athletes with visual impairment.
The public was addressed also by Anastasija Grigorjeva - Olympic wrestler fromDaugavpils. The sportswoman expressed her admiration for paralympic athletes’ willpower and aspiration to win. This clearly shows that all obstacles melt away if there is an aim. The head ofDaugavpilsOlympic centre Uldis Pastars passed congratulations of Andris Bērziņš - the president of theRepublicofLatviato Anastasija Grigorjeva on the occasion of award of title of the Champion of Europe.
The exhibition of photographs is made by 52 photographs taken by photographer Juris Bērziņš, photos display Latvian athletes at London Paralympic games. The exhibition at theDaugavpilsOlympic centre will be available for a month.
The photographs of the exhibition ‘You are. You can.’ depict London Paralympic games, with 4300 participants from 166 countries. Among them there were eight athletes fromLatvia. In general 21 sports discipline was represented at the London Paralympic games, 15 of them have been shown at the photographs.
