On thursday, 29 September, starts the seventh “Ventspils IT Challenge 2022” competition, which has become a good tradition and awaited event in autumn for students. And no wonder why – the competition gives students an opportunity to creatively express themselves, prove themselves and their abilities on an international scale between Baltic countries, and compete for a considerable prize money fund – nearly 13 000 EUR! This year the organisers have taken care of long-awaited news – the competition finals once again will happen in person, in Ventspils.

Daugavpils City Municipality in cooperation with Daugavpils Innovation Centre invites young people (14-16 years old) to apply for a camp in the field of STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics), which will take place on August 15-19, 2022 in Trondheim, Norway. Application deadline until May 23, 2022.
During the last weekend, everyone interested in STEM fields was invited to join the experience exchange session of the project's “Development of Innovation Centre in Daugavpils” Norwegian partner, Trondheim Science Centre: "The impact of Norwegian innovation and science centres on learning methodologies and the impact of educational programs on students’ competences". The participants actively took the opportunity to ask questions, participate in discussions and shared their experience.

On April 29-30, 2022, STEM teacher training was held in person in Daugavpils University (DU) Life Sciences and Technology Laboratories. Thus, the already usual online training was supplemented with face-to-face lessons – the experimental and practical part in DU laboratories.

On October 8 and 9, 2021, STEM teacher training took place in person in Daugavpils University Life Sciences and Technology Laboratories. Thus, the online training was supplemented with in person classes organized in accordance with epidemiological conditions – the experimental and practical part in DU laboratories. The participants of the training were given an exclusive opportunity to indulge in research, conduct experiments, delve into the world of nanotechnology, as well as discuss business issues. Daugavpils University ensures the implementation of the further education training program by combining remote and in person classes.

Continuing the theme #iebrauc Daugavpilī (#drive into Daugavpils) this Saturday, September 18, within the framework of the Rigas Street Festival, Daugavpils University offers the activity #iebrauc zinātnē (#grasp science – drive into science) with the aim to promote science and innovations in society, involving both children and young people and their parents to focus on complex scientific processes and explaining them in a way that is understandable and interesting to everyone.
Daugavpils University and four other Latvian higher education institutions have entered the international ranking of academic and research institutions “SCImago Institutions Ranking 2021”.
Daugavpils University in cooperation with Daugavpils Innovation Centre and Daugavpils City Council has started further education training for teachers “Informal Further Education Program in Competence-Based Approach for STEM Specialists”. Through the training, pedagogues will acquire knowledge, skills and competencies in the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) and entrepreneurship education and teaching methodology, which nowadays has become the basis for sustainable development.
