Appeal to participate in torch run „Around Latvia” City news
National Armed Forces in cooperation with State Police, State Border Guard and State Fire and Rescue Service appeal to inhabitants of Latvia to apply for torch run along border of Latvia – “Around Latvia”
“Any inhabitant of Latvia is welcome to participate in the run, thus confirming the unity of our nation. 21 years ago it was very important to confirm and strengthen the factual territory of our country during restoration of the territorial boundaries. Today the situation is different. However, also now in our daily lives there is lack of unity in patriotic questions, in statehood. Participation and desire to belong to this country is very important. I think that this run will consolidate us”, tells Chairperson of the Board of the Association, retired Vice Admiral Gaidis Andrejs Zeibots. Also in the year 1992 he was one of the organisers of the run.
As reported earlier, from 15th till 21st of August, honouring the 21st anniversary of torch relay organised by National Armed Forces in 1992, a run “Around Latvia”, initiated by the association “Club of Latvian Generals”, will be organised along the border of Latvia. Ceremonial unveiling of the run will take place on August 15 at 9:30 in Brothers' Cemetery, when, after the ceremonial lighting of torches, participants will start the run in two groups from Riga to Salacgriva and from Riga to Mersrags. Total distance of the run is approximately 1500 kilometres. The run will take seven days and it will have 14 stages.
Everyone who want to run for Latvia are welcome to apply for participation in a particular stage addressing a representative of the National Armed Forces by electronically sending one’s name, surname, age, telephone number, e-mail address, as well as information about the start place! See you soon!
