Baltic Student Song and Dance Festival ‘Gaudeamus’2014 will be held in Daugavpils City news
Daugavpils City council received an official letter from the Ministry of Education and Science informing that the XVII Baltic Student Song and Dance Festival ‘Gaudeamus’ 2014 will take place in Daugavpils.
From December 3, 2012 till January 15, 2013 the work group of the Ministry of Education and Science explored the opportunities for holding the festival at the potential candidate cities Jelgava, Liepāja and Daugavpils.
After evaluation of all offers, Daugavpils was chosen as the most appropriate place for holding the festival ‘Gaudeamus’. The festival will take place from June 27 till June 29, 2014.
It is told in the statement of the work group, that Daugavpils has a rich experience and traditions in hosting festivals of state and international importance, well-developed infrastructure. The city’s extensive public transport network ensures convenient and fast travel around the city. It is the only city (except Rīga) which has a large open-air stage (Stropu open-air stage). Experienced artistic directors, organizers and general conductors work in Daugavpils. The city offers interesting sights for tourists. Daugavpils is the city with the biggest number of educational establishments and students.
The work group of the Ministry of Education and Science believes that its cooperation with the Daugavpils City council and Daugavpils University, which expressed great approval and support to the festival, will be successful.
At the earliest possible date the Organising committee of the festival will organise the meeting with representatives of all establishments of higher education for a discussion on further cooperation in organising of the festival.
