Leaders of LOC and the heads of several sports federations visited Daugavpils City news

On the 4th of December Daugavpils was visited by General Secretary of Latvian Olympic Committee Tikmer Jorge, financial director Aldis Aboliņš, president of the Latvian Federation of swimming Kaspars Pone, President of Wrestling Federation Dzinrars Urbančiks, representative of Federation of gymnastics, Olympic silver medalist Jevgenijs Sapronenko. In Daugavpils Council they have met Daugavpils City Council Chairperson Žanna Kulakova, Vice-Chairman Vjačeslavs Širjakovs, and representatives of the sports sphere.

Daugavpils City Council Chairperson Žanna Kulakova expressed joy over the reception the leadership of LOC in Daugavpils. She emphasized that this year in Daugavpils held under the sign of sport and city festival this year was dedicated to the sport. For Daugavpils sport is a major priority, it is important to maintain a professional sport and active lifestyles of Daugavpils citizens. Pleases the fact that this is the year when Daugavpils athletes performed well, we are proud of Olympians, speedway, football team "Daugava" and many other athletes who elevate the name of the city with their achievements.

Sports management specialists have prepared a presentation for the guests about the sport and its development in Daugavpils.

Daugavpils City Council Chairperson Žanna Kulakova highly appreciates this meeting because the guests got convinced that Daugavpils has really done much for the benefit of sport. After the presentation, representatives of LOC were surprised by achievements of Daugavpils, while financing of sport in the country is reduced. LOC representatives agree with the municipality of Daugavpils that not only professional sport that provides results is worth funding; an interest should also be about active lifestyles and health of residents. Leaders of LOC believe that in the sphere of supporting the sports Daugavpils is one of the best governments.

LOC leadership promised to initiate the organization of sports events in Daugavpils. These are not just words, because the next year's Latvian championship in swimming, fighting sports and gymnastics in Daugavpils.

Heads of sports federations informed about their plans and expressed great interest in cooperation with Daugavpils municipality. Representative of the Federation of Gymnastics E. Sapronenko acknowledged that there is progress in Daugavpils; gymnastics involves 300 young people, that is why he called for further promotion and development of the sport.

President of the Swimming federation K. Pone believes that Daugavpils has all possibilities to develop the sport, it is a very popular activity among the residents of the city, and Daugavpils has 6 pools. They also spoke of the possibility for students to introduce swimming in first and second grades, as a compulsory subject, because swimming is a very developing activity for children. At the moment, many schools practice swimming lessons in 3-5 grades.

President of fighting federation D. Urbančiks thanked Daugavpils government for their support of the wrestlers. Vivid example for the young fighters and the fact that fighting sports are popular in the city and are developed at the highest level are the achievements of Anastasija Grigorjeva. Leadership of Daugavpils City Council expressed the readiness to support the sport, and is also open for cooperation with the Olympic Committee.
