EVENT FOR 6TH – 7TH GRADE PUPILS OF DAUGAVPILS SCHOOLS WITHIN ESDW 2023

From 18th September to 8th October, the European Sustainable Development Week 2023 (ESDW) will take place in Latvia and across Europe. It aims to promote international knowledge exchange and the sharing of the examples of good practices.

The 2015 UN resolution "Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" (Agenda 2030) and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) serve as guidelines for all actors to advance work on sustainable development projects. Learn more here.

Latvia is also actively implementing the 17 SDGs, integrating them into its policy agendas, while businesses and associations, as well as people at an individual level, are implementing them according to their own values and capacities. Daugavpils City Municipality Development Department in cooperation with the Education Department, Ltd. “AADSO”, as well as Latgale Zoo on 20.09. at 14:00 in the premises of Daugavpils Innovation Centre organizes an event within the ESDW 2023.

Daugavpils schools have been invited to form one team of 4 students from grades 6-7 each. Teams are invited to register for the event by 12 September 2023 here.

The aim of the event is to educate students about the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and to inform both students and teachers about the BALTIPLAST and Urb-area projects, as well as the educational materials developed within those projects, which can be used by schools in the learning process.

Teams will be invited to complete various tasks in the form of an educational game at 3 stands. 1 - WILDLIFE IN THE ESPLANADE WETLAND (URB-AREA PROJECT), 2 - WASTE SEPARATION (BALTIPLAST PROJECT), 3 - ANO 17 SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS. The most active participants will be rewarded. During or after the event, students and teachers will have the opportunity to visit the Daugavpils Innovation Centre exhibition.

The event is organized within projects “Baltic Approaches to Handling Plastic Pollution under a Circular Economy Context” BALTIPLAST/ No.#C021 and “Joint Management of Urban Wetland Areas in border region Latvia-Lithuania” Urb-Area/ No.LLI – 472.
