"URBACT" program expert and Re-Gen project lead partner from Italy visited Daugavpils City news
European territorial cooperation program "URBACT IV" expert, Raffaella Lioce, from Italy, visited Daugavpils on September 18th-19th to find out more about the Daugavpils urban environment and to get prepared for the project "Public space regeneration through integrated urban sports hubs for the participation of young citizens" (acronym: Re-Gen) next phase
Daugavpils was also visited by the representative of the "Re-Gen" project lead partner – Verona municipality in Italy, Marco Buemi. The expert and the lead partner met Anatolijs Gržibovskis, member of the municipal council, and the "Re-Gen" project implementation team: representatives of the Development Department of the Daugavpils Local Government Central Administration. During the meeting, the representatives of Daugavpils city presented already implemented projects, and also told what is being done in the local government to revitalize public areas with sports and active recreation solutions, as well as discussed the opportunities for young people to spend their free time outside of school and how the young people are being involved in the development and decision making processes of the municipality.
During the visit, the Daugavpils State Gymnasium, the Daugavpils Children and Youth Center "Jaunība", the Youth Initiatives Center were also visited, as well as the public outdoor space in the city's neighborhoods - Niderkūni, Esplanāde, Cietoksnis, Old Forštate and Stropi.
A cooperation network of 9 cities has been established within the project – Verona (Italy), Albacete (Spain), Daugavpils (Latvia), Vila du Conde (Portugal), Corfu (Greece), Pula (Croatia), Dobrich (Bulgaria), Milan (Italy), Lezha (Albania). "URBACT" expert and lead partner will visit each of the partner cities during the first phase of the project, evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of each.
According to the project application, the total costs of implementing the Re-Gen project in the Daugavpils Local Government are 78,660.00 euros, of which 80% or 62,928.00 euros are ERDF co-financing.
