The tourist season went well in Daugavpils in 2018. According to statistics, the total number of visitors to Daugavpils tourist attractions, culture and recreation establishments has increased by 8% compared to the previous year, reaching 550,707. Besides, 291,335 of them visited tourist attractions.
This year on February 11-13 CEIPES (Centro internazionale per la promozione dell’educazione e lo sviluppo) as a Partner of DeCoDe project hosted the meeting for local people from Italy and international partners and representatives from eight countries: Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, Romania, Denmark, Spain, England, Portugal. This was the third meeting of the project. The project is implemented within the framework of the 2nd strand "Democratic Engagement and Civic Participation" action 2.2 “Networks of Towns” of the European Union programme "Europe for Citizens". The project aims to create an international, sustainable network of European cities to share their experiences on depopulation processes and their impacts, and to find solutions to reduce depopulation.
The challenges of the interactive society, in the context of a major shift in global social dynamics, must be met with an open mind, making full use of the innovative resources of the digital world. This is one of the conclusions drawn at the "How Cities can Increase the Availability of Mobile Networks and Power Infrastructure" conference in Bucharest, which was attended by civil society activists, by government officials and stakeholders, on January 24th.
On January 27th, Lithuanian tourism exhibition “Adventur 2019” was concluded at Vilnius Exhibition Centre “Litexpo”. It was attended by specialists of Daugavpils City Municipality Tourism Development and Information Agency, who together with representatives of Latgale Region Tourism Association “Ezerzeme”, colleagues from Daugavpils District and Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre worked on the Daugavpils exhibition stall in order to popularise the wide tourism offer of Daugavpils and Latgale region.
Within the frameworks of the project Recruit potential (“Recruit potential – VET measures for Inclusive Employers”) fourth international project partners meeting was held in Lisburn, Northern Ireland from January 9th to 10th. Project is being implemented by 5 partners from 5 different countries – Sweden, Portugal, United Kingdom, Netherlands and Latvia and is financed by the EU program “ERASMUS+”. Lead partner is Skelleftea municipality in Sweden.

The project involved 6 partners from 6 countries: Lithuania, Poland, Germany, Sweden, Serbia and Latvia; in the frameworks of this project partners from Italy visited Daugavpils as well. The aim of the project was to strengthen town twinning through democratic engagement and civic participation based on sharing, understanding, solidarity and intercultural synergy for better future of Europe.

On Friday 21 September at Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre, the 115th anniversary of the world-renowned Daugavpils-born artist Mark Rothko will be celebrated with a concert of an Italian duet, a creative workshop for children, a press conference and the opening of eight new exhibitions.

A series of international conferences on the integration of immigrants and refugees was held in Valencia under the project "Digital Strategy for the Cities of the European Union for the Integration of Immigrants" (EUCIDIN for its acronym in Spanish), with the participation of 9 partners from 5 different countries: Latvia, Romania, Greece, Spain and Italy.
