As museums and other art spaces reopen for individual visitors, artist Māris Čačka’s solo show “Direct Dialogues”, featuring vast works on canvas, is ready to receive visitors at Daugavpils Local History and Art Museum (Latvia). The exhibition will be available 7 through 27 June.

In the 2021 bathing season, two beaches in Daugavpils have retained the right to raise the Blue Flag – the most popular and recognized tourism eco-certificate in the world. From June 1, the Blue Flag is flying on the beach of Lielais Stropu Lake and the bathing site “Stropu vilnis”.
With the arrival of summer, from June 1 to October, boat rental "Beibuki" offers water trips along the Daugava River with a motorized raft "Sola" and a boat "Dina". The Daugava is the right place to enjoy the beautiful and diverse landscapes of Latvia's nature. A trip along the Daugava is a great way to get to know the city from a different point of view, as well as a great idea for a romantic evening for two or a family holiday adventure.
Starting 1 June, Latgale Central Library offers an exhibition “City. Daugavpils”, assembled from the graphic art collection of Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre.
Ten years ago, in the water tower building, which was built in 1865-1866 according to the project of the Dinaburg Fortress engineering team, the Culture and Information Centre of Daugavpils Fortress was opened. To mark the anniversary, a video with the memories and wishes of former and current Information Centre employees has been made in cooperation with the City Council.
Music Square opened at Esplanade Park

Daugavpils Culture Development Program approved, foreseeing dynamic growth of the cultural sector

For the first time in Daugavpils, a detailed development program of cultural sector has been developed and approved at the City Council meeting of May 13, which envisages dynamic interdisciplinary and international cooperation over the next seven years, involvement of various social groups in creating cultural offer and implementing environmentally friendly actions in organizing events.
The producers of “LRT+” offer an unusual video “View from Another Angle – Daugavpils Fortress”, in which the cultural and historical heritage of Daugavpils Fortress is reflected through the prism of the city's most popular sport – speedway.
As summer approaches, Daugavpils parks and squares are gradually filled with babbling water sounds. This year, the residents of Daugavpils will be delighted by five fountains in different districts of the city and a water cascade on Rīgas Street. Specialists of the responsible services prepared all the equipment for the new season.
The Discharge-Recharge Wall

The Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre courtyard has been temporarily transformed with a Discharge-Recharge Wall – a custom-made site for an interactive self-performance open to anyone willing to join.
As soon as current restrictions are lifted, Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre will resume receiving visitors with a brand-new permanent exhibition.

Spring is in full swing and delights with the warm rays of the sun and fragrant air, while everything is ready to blossom and thrive. Very soon the favourite season – summer – will come. Many yearn for exciting trips, new impressions and adventures, so Daugavpils City Municipality Tourism Development and Information Agency, Krāslava District Council Tourism Information Centre and Daugavpils District Municipal Agency “TAKA” have jointly created a new tourism product and offer everyone to participate in a travel campaign “Daugava unites”, which will take place from May 1 to October 31 this year.
Daugavpils will host a celebration of the 230th anniversary of the first European constitution

On May 3, 1791, a new constitution was adopted in the Polish-Lithuanian state. „The Constitution of May 3”, as this document is called in the history of Poland and Lithuania, was one of the most progressive basic laws at that time. The adopted constitution was inspired by the political and public opinion of the European Enlightenment and the Constitution of the United States of 1787. Polish lawmakers believed that the government should serve the good of the whole nation, not the interests of a few.
Daugavpils University and four other Latvian higher education institutions have entered the international ranking of academic and research institutions “SCImago Institutions Ranking 2021”.
The courtyard of Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre has become an exhibition space for a steel sculpture by Solveiga Vasiļjeva “What did You Want to Say Me? Nothing.”, in due course to be followed by other objects.
Easter in Daugavpils

The Easter atmosphere has entered the city of Daugavpils not only with decorations, but also with a number of activities in which everyone can participate.
The beautiful spring time has come, which always provides an opportunity to spend time actively and excitingly. Although various restrictions currently are in force, which also affect sporting events, this Easter everyone will have the opportunity to spend their free time actively and interestingly, participating in the game "Engage in Sports Activities at Easter in Stropi".
Easter waiting time is a moment when people spend time with their families, friends, and loved ones. Many have their own traditions of making this holiday time unforgettable – tidy up their homes, paint eggs in bright colours and bake a sweet Easter cake according to their grandmother's recipe, as well as go see the decorated city.
The absolute majority or 88 % of respondents support Daugavpils' candidacy for the title “European Capital of Culture 2027”, and almost half of the population is ready to actively participate – as volunteers in the events, implement their ideas and participate in the organization of events. This is evidenced by the survey of culture consumption in Daugavpils conducted in February 2021 by the Latvian Academy of Culture and think tank “Culturelab”.
Daugavpils University in cooperation with Daugavpils Innovation Centre and Daugavpils City Council has started further education training for teachers “Informal Further Education Program in Competence-Based Approach for STEM Specialists”. Through the training, pedagogues will acquire knowledge, skills and competencies in the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) and entrepreneurship education and teaching methodology, which nowadays has become the basis for sustainable development. The training is ensured by the academic and scientific staff of Daugavpils University.
