Spring has come to Latgale Zoo in Daugavpils. Grass is starting to grow and flowers bloom in the courtyard. Tree frogs are singing in the Zoo exposition. Meerkats and dwarf rabbits are sunbathing in the spring sun; also, other inhabitants feel the arrival of the warm weather.

Harbin is a sister city of Daugavpils in the People`s Republic of China. The cooperation agreement was concluded on January 6, 2003. During this time, a very productive and warm friendship has developed. Once again, at a difficult time, friends in China responded and provided assistance, although the situation in Harbin is also difficult. 1800 protective face masks have been sent from Harbin to the sister city in Latvia.
It is decided to cancel the 6th International Historical Re-enactment and Rock Music Festival “Dinaburg 1812” in 2020. This decision was made in connection with the decision to cancel or postpone events in the summer of 2020, which was approved at an emergency meeting of the Committee on Education and Culture of the Daugavpils City Council on April 23, and taking into account the state of emergency in the country.
3rd Latvia Ceramics Biennale is rescheduled

With the extension of the nationwide state of emergency, the organisers of the 3rd Latvia Ceramic Biennale have decided to reschedule the entire programme and its central event – the international juried exhibition MARTINSONS AWARD – for the summer of 2021.
In order to reduce the risks of further spread of Covid-19 among Latvian residents, according to the epidemiological situation, the government has adopted strict rules to limit the assembly of people at private and public events. Restrictions regarding physical contact apply to public indoor and outdoor activities and lay down the rules in respect of a distance of two metres and two persons.
Please be informed, that tourist attractions, culture, sports and leisure institutions, and events held in Daugavpils have changed their working hours to the introduction of a state of emergency in Latvia due to spread of COVID-19 virus.
Almost all state and municipal institutions work remotely, and many tourist attractions, culture, sports and leisure institutions are closed, and events are cancelled.

Daugavpils City Municipality Tourism Development and Information Agency has compiled the information about the number of visits to the tourist attractions, culture, sports and leisure institutions in Daugavpils in 2019. The data reveals that Daugavpils continues to develop as an interesting and diverse tourist destination which is annually visited by thousands of tourists from Latvia and abroad.
At 4 p.m. on Friday 13 March at Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre, after a fortnight of intensive studio work, a team of international graphic artists who participated in the 9th International Latgale Graphic Art Symposium will present a group exhibition of their work.
On 20th February around 50 specialists in fields of spatial planning and construction, property management, as well as business and urban development from project partner institutions (Latvian Office of Euroregion "Country of lakes", Joint Municipal Institution “Rēzekne Special Economic Zone Authority”, Rezekne Municipality, Daugavpils City Council, Kraslava Municipality Council, Panevėžys City Municipality Administration, Visaginas Municipality Administration) gathered for project’s “Trans-form” final conference “Transformations from Slum to Chic” in Daugavpils. In cozy premises of Family Digital Activity Hub of Latgale Central Library, specialists had an opportunity to discuss the most topical issues in revitalization of brownfields.
1 March through 13 March Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre will host the ninth International Latgale Graphic Art Symposium with ten artists from ten different countries accepted as its participants.

At 6 p.m. on February 13 the exhibition “Frontiers of shadow and light” from the collection of Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Center opens in the National Center for Contemporary Arts of the Republic of Belarus.
By way of a tribute to Pēteris Martinsons, Latvian Centre for Contemporary Ceramics in cooperation with Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre announces a call for applications to the international juried ceramics exhibition MARTINSONS AWARD, which will feature in the programme of the 3rd Latvia Ceramics Biennale.
At 4 p.m. on Friday 7 February, the new exhibition season will be opened at Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre as an ode to the graphic medium. The opening ceremony will be preceded by a public screening of the documentary “Final Traces of the Abstract Expressionists” and a meeting with the filmmaker, Caro Jost.
On January 3, a second free tour for potential remigrants took place in Daugavpils Fortress. The organized excursions were attended by potential remigrants and their families from the United Kingdom, as well as the United States of America and Australia. But the average time spent abroad is 13 years.
Turn of the year has brought to different cultural spaces in Latvia and to the Lithuanian city of Panevėžys several exhibitions of selected artwork from the art collection of Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre.
