On 12 July, Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre will open a new exhibition of original works by artist Mark Rothko. The event will be marked by a public discussion and concert and attended by Mark Rothko’s daughter, Kate Rothko Prizel.

The fourth meeting “Best Practices for the Depopulation Control Action Plan” within the project “Challenges of Regional Centres: Depopulation Control, Development –best practices” (DeCoDe) took place in Łódź, Poland at the end of May. Lodzkie Region, a Partner of DeCoDe project hosted the meeting for partners and local representatives of academia, administration and non-governmental sector from eight countries: Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, Romania, Italy, Denmark and Spain.
The project is co-financed by the Europe for Citizens programme, and it aims to empower actors to get socially engaged for the sake of European solidarity and cooperation. The SOLID Network consists of 13 towns, regions and civil society organizations from all over the EU, FYROM and Serbia. The aim of the project is to implement new political tools that enable local communities to have an impact on the global and European solidarity in time of institutional and humanitarian crisis that different EU countries are currently facing.
Daugavpils City Council in cooperation with Vanersborg municipality (Vänersborgs kommun) in Sweden (lead partner) implements project WIR within the framework of European Union Programme “Europe for Citizens”, 2nd activity “Democratic engagement and civic participation”. The project involves 10 partners from 7 countries – Sweden, Italy, Spain, Austria, Germany, Finland and Latvia. Specific goal of the project is to understand the policies and strategy developed by the EU and the welcoming and integrating procedures implemented in the different member states, in order to eliminate stereotypes and misguided narratives about refugees.
Fifth Art Night in Daugavpils

At 10 p.m. through 2 a.m. on Friday 7 June, Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre will organise its fifth Art Night in the historical Daugavpils Fortress.
On 18 May 2019, 7 p.m. through midnight, Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre will be open for the Long Night of Museums with a special programme “Grey Covers Laid out by the Night”.
Popular Lithuanian media artist Remigijus Venckus to offer a one-day exhibition at the Rothko Centre

For one day only, on 18 May, 7 p.m. through midnight, expressly for the Long Night of Museums, Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre will offer photo exhibition “Solaris” by popular Lithuanian media artist Remigijus Venckus. The exhibition was inspired by Polish philosopher Stanislaw Lem and his ideas expressed in the Sci-Fi novel “Solaris”.
Today on May 7 at 3:00 PM, the 8th International Latgale Graphic Art Symposium will be officially started with the artists’ presentations at Daugavpils Mark Rothko art Centre.
Daugavpils City Council and partners from Turkey (Amasja and Suluova) are implementing the project “Our Cities Pairing on Environment Issues”.
On Friday 26 April, in cooperation with Boris Lurie Art Foundation, an exhibition “Artist and Witness” by world-famous artist Boris Lurie, founder of the NO!art movement, will open at Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre.
Sixth anniversary of the Rothko Centre

On Friday 26 April, Daugavpils Mark Rothko Centre will celebrate its sixth anniversary with a lecture, a film screening, a discussion and the opening of the new exhibition season.
This is an annual spring exhibition of Daugavpils Regional Artists Association, which takes place at the Daugavpils Regional Studies and Art Museum for the 21th time.

The tourist season went well in Daugavpils in 2018. According to statistics, the total number of visitors to Daugavpils tourist attractions, culture and recreation establishments has increased by 8% compared to the previous year, reaching 550,707. Besides, 291,335 of them visited tourist attractions.
At 4 p.m. on Friday 8 March, the exhibition “ILLUSION OF TENDERNESS” will be opened to the public, featuring select artwork from the painting collection of Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre.
Latvian Centre for Contemporary Ceramics in cooperation with Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre invites Latvian, Lithuanian and Estonian artists to apply for BASICS: Baltic Juried Exhibition of Contemporary Ceramics.
This year on February 11-13 CEIPES (Centro internazionale per la promozione dell’educazione e lo sviluppo) as a Partner of DeCoDe project hosted the meeting for local people from Italy and international partners and representatives from eight countries: Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, Romania, Denmark, Spain, England, Portugal. This was the third meeting of the project. The project is implemented within the framework of the 2nd strand "Democratic Engagement and Civic Participation" action 2.2 “Networks of Towns” of the European Union programme "Europe for Citizens". The project aims to create an international, sustainable network of European cities to share their experiences on depopulation processes and their impacts, and to find solutions to reduce depopulation.
The challenges of the interactive society, in the context of a major shift in global social dynamics, must be met with an open mind, making full use of the innovative resources of the digital world. This is one of the conclusions drawn at the "How Cities can Increase the Availability of Mobile Networks and Power Infrastructure" conference in Bucharest, which was attended by civil society activists, by government officials and stakeholders, on January 24th.
On Friday 1 February at Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre will be opened contemporary art exhibition of sixteen artists in painting, photography, graphics, sculpture on the theme beautiful side of truth and the truthful side of beauty.
