PROGRAM: European Union Programme “Europe for Citizens”, 2nd activity “Democratic engagement and civic participation” 2.2. “Network of Towns”

AIM:  to promote international co-operation among EU countries and to promote the recognition of Daugavpils in the EU context, as well as to raise citizens' awareness of the European Union, its history and diversity, and the EU's objectives of promoting peace in Europe, values and people's well-being by raising discussions and making contacts. The specific purpose of the project is to understand the strategy developed and applied by the EU in relation to the integration process, to increase the level of civic participation, involving social groups at all levels.

ACTIVITIES AND RESULTS:

           to gain knowledge of the EU approach in the integration process;

           to increase the level of civic participation;

           to get acquainted with good practice examples in the cities and countries involved;

           to collect information on different methods to work with different social groups in the municipality;

           to participate in international events to exchange experiences and present Daugavpils as a competitive city in the EU and share its experience;

           to develop an international cooperation among the cities and municipalities involved in the project  in the common issues.
